Title: Claim Your Own Abstract
Location: White Bear Center for the Arts, 4971 Long Avenue, White Bear Lake, MN 55110
Description: I am not going to teach you how to paint abstracts that look like mine! We will discover some tools that you can use to “reach inside” yourself and create paintings that are vibrant and exciting–no matter what direction you take them! We will work with automatic drawing, the nature of line, shape, form, focus, intention (or not) in a way that makes the paintings exciting for you as the artist–and therefore can only be exciting for your viewers and collectors. All experience levels are welcome, but come prepared to really stretch your artistic vision in an attempt to move beyond your current thinking.

Title: Radiant Floral & Magical Mist
Location: Smith Studio & Gallery, 9500 Flying Cloud Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55347
Description: Radiant Floral – The paper with the drawing printed on it will be provided along with a packet of step-by-step directions with colored photos. What better way to celebrate Summer, than by painting a beautiful flower with bright, vibrant colors? Through wet into wet glazes, you will be amazed at the rich colors that will be developed. Also, learn how to preserve the whites, pour colors, negative paint, soften and lift, and a valuable technique to allow you Time to adjust colors and make corrections.. YES.. I know it sounds unbelievable, but with this technique, you will have time to make corrections with watercolors! Capture the Magic of Mist – Explore techniques to create the illusion of mist. We’ll paint multiple “misty” paintings so you get lots of practice with a variety of subjects. By understanding how water reacts on the paper and how to prepare the paper in such a way, misty effects happen naturally – without scrubbing and lifting. Participants will also learn to create beautiful skies, sun beams, waves, birch trees, as well as trees that look natural vs mechanical looking trees we might create with too much brushwork. Participants will be provided with a sketch to transfer from, a reference photo, a typed outline (so you can focus on instruction vs taking notes), and step-by-step instruction through all stages of the paintings. Hope to see ya there!
