December meeting was a “package deal!”
by Barb Parisien Our December NorthStar meeting proved to be a triple header: great holiday treats, another fun art-swap, and a detailed education on Golden Acrylic products as demonstrated by Bonnie Cutts.
Members began arriving around 6:30 to socialize and enjoy a generous array of savories and sweets. Items culled from artists’ closets were sold, swapped, and given away. Dick Green cleaned out his collection of brushes. “Limit two per person,” the sign said, but Dick didn’t abide by his own rule.
Marilyn Jacobson sold 22 “vintage” NorthStar Watercolor Society aprons. At 7:30, president Jill Jacobson introduced board members and new members who had joined since September. She made a plea for current members to renew.
Program chair Leny Wendel then introduced Bonnie Cutts, Golden Acrylic representative. After distributing an information packet, Bonnie demonstrated and explained the many gels, mediums and paints offered by Golden. She applied the products to various grounds or surfaces and gave tips about their use. After Bonnie’s demonstration, members were asked to fill out an evaluation form and claim their prize – a nice assortment of Golden Acrylic samples.
Everyone went away well-fed, socially nourished, and well educated, agreeing that there is much more to learn about acrylics.
