Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary!

Thank you to our membership, past and present, for supporting us through the years! A huge thank you to those who helped to make the 50th Anniversary Party a success – both our volunteers and guests. The night was filled with wonderful memories, fun photos, reminiscing with friends old and new, playing games, and watching the colorful Emmy White create an anniversary party masterpiece – thank you, Emmy! If you weren’t able to join us for the NSWS 50th anniversary party, the YouTube link to the streamed party is available below.

About Artist

Artist Highlight

NSWS Welcomes Robert Jeffery as our Member Artist Highlight!

Robert feels that painting in watercolor presents an interesting dichotomy. On the one hand, it is often dismissed as a leisurely outdoor activity for anyone with a pad of paper and a box of watercolors. On the other hand, it is now recognized as a beautiful and responsive art form and one of the most difficult to master.

His subject matter and style of painting include architectural details and historical references. Robert and his wife started traveling to Europe over 30 years ago, and he has observed and photographed some amazing stonework, handcrafted tile, mosaics, and old-world artistry that would be difficult to reproduce today. He is constantly overwhelmed by the ingenuity, passion, and creativity of the artists and artisans who have come before us.

Robert graduated from college with a Fine Arts Degree and worked in the art field as a retail designer, an illustrator, a commercial graphics design studio owner, and a watercolorist.

He is honored to be a Signature Member of the NorthStar Watermedia Society, the Minnesota Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, and, most recently, a newly admitted Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society with a painting now hanging in the 2025 exhibition gallery in California. In 2017, he received a first-place watercolor award from the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Competition.
