Presentation by Wet Paint and Hahnemühle Papers
NorthStar opened the new season with a presentation by Joe Domeier, Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper representative, and Greg Graham, manager of Wet Paint Artists’ Materials and Framing.
Art Weeks, NorthStar program director, opened the presentation by showing a variety of watermedia papers including Canson, Arches, Fabriano, and Winsor Newton. He explained the difference between cold press, hot press, and rough paper and the advantages of each.
Then Joe Domeier summarized the history of paper from papyrus and bamboo of early civilizations up to the machine made and mould made process used by paper makers today. He talked about the difference between paper made from cotton fibers and that made from wood pulp or cellulose. A video visualized the paper-making process and showed how various textures are achieved and how sizing is added. Members were invited to try out the various papers with samples provided. It was a lively opening of the new season with members out of their seats, participating, and experimenting with something new.
