1st Annual NorthStar Watermedia 2015 National Exhibition
“Viewing our NorthStar national juried exhibition gave me chills!” remarked chairperson Janice Anderson at the opening reception September 13 at Hopkins Center for the Arts. Anderson introduced juror Jack Richeson who described the quality of the paintings as “earth shaking.” Of the 322 paintings submitted, Richeson was asked to choose 60 for the exhibition. His first step was to pare the number down to 150. “These were all winners,” Richeson said. Then he was challenged to choose 60 for the exhibition. “It was particularly challenging because the show accepted mixed media, not just watercolor. There are great watermedia artists out there such as Quiller and Francese, but there is incredible talent right here.” He exclaimed that the drawing was exceptional. Richeson presented 16 awards totaling almost $9000 in cash, certificates, and products. He concluded by commending the committee for initiating a process that will “go on and on.” Enjoying refreshments along with art, family and friends continued to view the paintings which will be displayed until October 18. A CD featuring all of the paintings can be purchased for $10.50.
