John has participated in hundreds of juried exhibitions and twenty-six one-person or small group shows in the United States, in addition to participating as an invited artist in thirteen international exhibitions in Asia and Australia. He has won more than 200 awards in national and international exhibitions, including the American Watercolor Society Gold Medal in both 2006 and 2010 and the Silver Star top award in both 2005 and 2011 in the National Watercolor Society Exhibition. He has also twice won the top award in the Transparent Watercolor Society of America exhibition. He was awarded the Silver Medal With Honor by Allied Artists in 2009 and the Gold Medal in 2011. He has participated as an invited artist in 13 Exhibitions in China, Taiwan and Australia and was honored with the Shanghai Zhoujiajiao International Biennial Award in 2010.

He has been honored with Master Status in TWSA and inclusion in the American Watercolor Society’s Dolphin Fellowship. He is an honorary member of the Jiangsu Watercolor Research Institute in China and is the first American painter to be honored with inclusion in the Australian Watercolour Insitute.
